As the summer months are upon us it's important to keep in mind that with our summers, comes hurricane season. Below, you can find some helpful tips and reminders .

Hurricane Do's

1. Consider Flood Insurance. If you do not live in a flood zone, the average cost is $660 a year for $250,000 worth of coverage. One inch of flood water can cost up to $25,000 in damage.

2. Make sure you have enough supplies for seven days.

3. Start preparing as early as possible

4. Buy non-perishable foods.  (Canned foods, peanut butter, crackers)

5. Get a few 5 gallon buckets with fitted lids. These are great for storing batteries, electronics, documents and medicines.

6. Establish a designated shelter area.

7. Make an evacuation plan. Make sure everyone in the house knows what to do and where to go.

8. Turn on emergency notifications on your mobile devices.

9. Check on your neighbors.

Hurricane Don'ts

1. Don't let your car's gas tank get below half full. If you have a electric vehicle, keep it charged.

2. Listen to trained emergency officials and meteorologists.

3. Don't bother taping up your windows.

4. Don't drive through flooded streets.
